Catching up... Summer Highlights

We have had way too much going on lately and as usual the blogging is one of the first things to go in the competition for our time and attention.  While we are now getting into the full swing of the Christmas spirit I've been looking back at some of our summer highlights.  Of course top of the list has to be our annual trip to Michigan.

I took Kate to the always incredible Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan.  I haven't been there in years but have a few fond memories of visits there over the years.  This is Northern Michigan at its finest!

The Kids had fun playing around Grandma and Grandpa's house
We were also blessed to be able to spend some real quality time with my grandfather.  Elizabeth who has always been extremely good to Grandpa road around in his wheel chair with him.  I couldn't have been more proud of her as she sat in his lap and had a wonderful conversation with him while we walked to and from a special lunch we did with him.

Of course the big hit was the toad that we found hopping through the grounds.  Of course the toad ended up in all of the photos.

We next went to the Flats for the remainder of our time in Michigan
Elizabeth catches more fish there every year, above she is holding the smallest one she caught - a little perch that could fit in the palm of her hand

This one was the biggest - A very healthy Norther Pike - Nice work Elizabeth!

Elizabeth also went for her first solo kayak this year which was a big step.  On longer Kayaks I would tie her kayak to mine and tow her along.  It worked great!

Napping at the flats has to be one of the highlights.  The sounds of summer outside and a nice breeze off the lake blowing through the windows makes for some fantastic napping

Its funny how I never saw the sunrise at the Flats before we had kids... now its a fairly common occurrence.

Happy Hour!
